Why should investors engage on climate policy? When they do, which aspects of policy should they prioritise? Who’s already at the forefront of this agenda – and how can others catch up?

Time To Get Real synthesises findings from 18 months of research and conversations with investment industry stakeholders. In total, more than 120 individual institutions were involved, representing approximately US$33 trillion in AUM.

The report makes the case that engagement on climate policy – and real economy policies, in particular – is a must for investors who are serious about protecting long-term returns, mitigating risks and delivering on climate goals. It highlights pioneers who are already leading on this agenda and sets out practical guidance for how other institutions can accelerate up a maturity curve.

We are grateful to the Generation Foundation for supporting this research – and to the many partners and advisors who have helped strengthen our findings.

What happens next?

Our goal is to build the investment industry’s capacity to engage effectively on climate policy. That means two things:

  1. Supporting individual institutions who are ready to experiment and learn by doing.
  1. Promoting this research (e.g., speaking at industry events) to help normalise the idea that real economy policy engagement is something that investors can and should do.
