Green Swans: Book, Awards and World Tour

A key output of the Tomorrow’s Capitalism Inquiry is the Volans Green Swans Campaign — designed to identify, investigate, spotlight, support and scale exponential solutions to the world’s greatest challenges.

Sir Tim Smit and Sacha Dench announced as the first winners of the Green Swan Award at Tomorrow’s Capitalism Forum

Tim Smit

Founder and Executive Co-Chair of Eden Project International

The Eden Project transformed a vast china clay pit in Cornwall into a world class attraction and hub that has introduced sustainability thinking and practices to over 20 million visitors – in the process injecting over £1.5 billion into the regional economy. Truly, a masterwork in regenerative capitalism. Eden features prominently in Green Swans because it powerfully illustrates the original intent of the triple bottom line – an integrated, systemic approach to economic, social and environmental value creation.

Sacha Dench

Founder of Conservation Without Borders

Known as the “Human Swan,” Sacha Dench is a pilot with a mission: “Connecting Science, People & Planet”. Her groundbreaking expedition, Flight of the Swans , involved flying 7,000 kilometres by paramotor, in all weathers, from Arctic Russia across 11 countries to the UK – to help draw attention to the plight of the Bewick’s swan.

The Green Swan Campaign so far:

1. A filmed launch event on 23 June 2019 at the Barnes Wetland Centre, featuring speakers like Sir Tim Smit of The Eden Project, WWF UK CEO Tanya Steele and Mark Campanale of Carbon Tracker Initiative.

2. A major book, Green Swans: The Coming Boom in Regenerative Capitalism, by John Elkington, his twentieth. This will be published by Fast Company Press in April 2020.

3. The Green Swan World Tour, with events, dates and venues to be announced in our Events section.

4. The Green Swan Award, with the first two awarded at the Tomorrow’s Capitalism Forum in January 2020. The first formal call for entries will be made in late Spring, with next round of awards made in the Autumn/Fall of 2020.
